Situated at the intersection of literary theory, posthuman studies, and cognitive approaches to narrative, my work investigates how literary texts imagine new forms of subjectivity emerging in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and technological mediation.

The philosophical foundations of my research lie within posthumanism, a field that critically interrogates the anthropocentric assumptions that have historically structured Western thought. Posthuman theory reconsiders the human subject not as an autonomous and self-contained entity but as part of a broader network of technological, biological, and environmental relations. Literature, in this context, becomes a particularly significant space in which the boundaries between the human and the non-human can be explored and reimagined.

My work specifically examines how contemporary fiction represents artificial intelligence as a narrative agent capable of challenging long-standing philosophical models of mind and consciousness. Rather than treating artificial intelligence merely as a technological object, many recent literary texts portray AI systems as entities that participate in ethical reasoning, emotional interaction, and social life. These representations destabilise the humanist assumption that consciousness, empathy, and moral judgement are uniquely human capacities.

Within this broader theoretical framework, my research engages with the emerging field of cognitive posthumanism, which examines how distributed cognition and machine intelligence reshape our understanding of consciousness and agency. Cognitive posthumanism draws attention to the ways in which thinking and perception are no longer confined to the biological human brain but are increasingly mediated through technological systems and artificial networks.

A central component of my current research project is the analysis of literary narratives that explore these questions through representations of artificial intelligence. Contemporary novels often use AI characters not only as plot devices but as philosophical instruments through which the limits of human cognition and ethical reasoning can be interrogated. By analysing these narratives through the lens of posthuman theory and cognitive literary studies, my work seeks to understand how literature contributes to ongoing debates about the future of human identity.

Alongside posthuman theory, my research also draws upon affect studies, particularly in examining how literature represents emotional and relational dynamics between human and non-human entities. Affect theory provides an important framework for understanding how emotions, sensations, and embodied experiences circulate between bodies, technologies, and environments. In narratives involving artificial intelligence, affect becomes a crucial dimension through which questions of empathy, ethical responsibility, and relationality are explored.

Another important dimension of my research concerns the concept of the posthuman gaze. This concept examines how literary narratives construct perspectives that are no longer exclusively human but mediated through technological or non-human forms of perception. By analysing narrative voice, focalisation, and representational strategies in contemporary fiction, my work investigates how literature imagines new modes of perception that challenge anthropocentric narrative frameworks.

My Master’s dissertation, Cognitive Posthumanism: AI and the Rewriting of Consciousness in Literary Narrative, explores these themes through a close analysis of contemporary speculative fiction. The study examines how novels that depict artificial intelligence engage with philosophical questions about machine consciousness, ethical agency, and the transformation of human subjectivity in technologically mediated societies.

More broadly, my research seeks to contribute to the expanding field of posthuman literary studies, which explores how literature responds to the rapidly evolving relationship between humans, technology, and the environment. By bringing together literary theory, cognitive studies, and affect theory, my work aims to develop new critical frameworks for understanding the cultural and philosophical implications of artificial intelligence and posthuman thought in contemporary narrative.

In the future, I aim to extend this research through doctoral study, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches that combine literary analysis with philosophical inquiry into technology and cognition.
